BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Full Birth Certificate
Full birth certificates are issued upon request to persons who are South African citizens and whose births were duly registered in South Africa.

Requirements:
•    Completed form BI-154 (HERE)
•    Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Prescribed fee of 11 lv.
•    Copy of abridged birth certificate

Registration of Foreign Birth (persons under 1 year)

Requirements:
•    Completed form BI-24 *
•    Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Prescribed fee of  11 lv.
•    Copy of parents South African passports
•    Certified copy of Birth Registration from the Civil Registrar’s Office and original
•    Marriage certificate of parents (if applicable)

Registration of Foreign Birth (persons 1 year up to 15 years)

Requirements:
•    Completed form BI-24/1 *
•    Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Copy of parents South African passports
•    Certified copy of Birth Registration from the Civil Registrar’s Office and original (if applicable)
•    Marriage certificate of parents (if applicable)

Registration of Foreign Birth (persons 15 years and older)

Requirements:
•    Completed form BI-24/15 *
•    Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Prescribed fee of  11 lv.
•    Copy of parents South African passports
•    Certified copy of Birth Registration from the Civil Registrar’s Office and original (if applicable)
•    Marriage certificate of parents (if applicable)
* Note: Forms BI-24, BI-24/1 and BI-24/15 can not be downloaded and must be obtained from the Embassy

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

Persons who were married in South Africa and whose marriages were registered in South Africa may apply for their marriage certificates subject to the following requirements:

Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Completed form BI-130 (HERE)
•    Copy of South African passport
•    Copy of foreign spouse passport
•    Prescribed fee of 11 lv. (full)
•    Prescribed fee of 2 lv. (abridged)

LETTER OF NO IMPEDIMENT

This document is issued by Home Affairs to confirm marital status.

Requirements:
•    Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Letter of request from applicant
•    Prescribed fee of 8 lv.

DEATH CERTIFICATE

Death Certificates of persons who died in South Africa can be obtained by formal application.

Requirements:
•    Completed form BI-529E (HERE)
•    Completed form BI-132 (HERE)
•    Prescribed fee of  11 lv. (full)
•    Prescribed fee of 2 lv. (abridged)
Copy of translated death certificate issued by the local authorities
